Good science is based upon skepticism. I encourage you to seek proof and consilience with other science disciplines and sources. Most of all enjoy the quest. Form your own opinions on credible and reproducible data, not heresay or the utterances of pundits without scientific credentials.
About me: My name is W. Douglas Smith. I'm an environmental scientist, environmental diplomat, explorer and educator. As a Senior Compliance Investigator in the U.S. EPA, I conducted inspections and investigations, developed protocols and training materials for EPA, the World Bank Institute, and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). From 1962 through 1992 I was the owner/operator of an adventure travel company that began the concept of eco-trekking in the Himalayas and around the world.
Welcome to the Antropocene. We are the dominant bio-geochemical force on Earth. We have dominion. "With great power comes great responsibility."
Great civilizations have risen and fallen because of the choices they made. We are at a similar crossroads with our global civilization. What will our choices be? Will it be hubris and greed for the here and now or wisdom and a view to a sustainable, just and prosperous future?
We can live in harmony with the planet that gives us goods and services or ignore that relationship and suffer the consequences.
The consequences of ignoring Earth's symbiotic relationship to humanity are severe.
